Our Program
SFU’s Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies has shifted all 2020 programming online to accommodate COVID-19 protocols, while making our programming more accessible. We are excited to present our event line-up, which reflects this year’s theme of “Joy and Solidarity”. Muslim communities have increasingly become the focus of negative public attention and misconceptions. As we work to reclaim our narrative we acknowledge that Indigenous communities have been facing similar struggles for generations. Each event has been intently planned to highlight the diversity and splendor of Muslim art and culture, often overlooked. Islamic History Month provides a unique opportunity to showcase our local Indigenous and Muslim poets, artists, and performers. We believe in the importance of telling our own stories and examining what it means to be on this land and in good relationships. Thank you for visiting our page and celebrating Islamic History Month with the SFU Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies.
Given that events will be hosted online this year, we feel that we have been presented with a unique opportunity to collaborate across the country. We are delighted that some of our events will also be hosted in other cities, where you can join us from the comfort of your home. Canada’s national theme this year is “Honouring the Resilience and Achievements of Black Muslims” which represents another essential dimension of solidarity in our communities today.
