Assalamu Alaikum & Peace Dear Friends,
Islamic History Month Canada (IHMC) was officially proclaimed in 2007 to recognize the rich heritage, contributions, and ongoing presence of Muslim communities across the country. Each October, IHMC is part of an opportunity to celebrate, learn, and reflect on the diverse ways in which Muslim Canadians have shaped and enriched our shared history.
For 2025, we are pleased to announce the theme:
"Pioneering Muslim Communities in Canada: Cultivating Spaces for Comfort, Growth, and Learning Over Time."
This theme highlights the resilience and dedication of early Muslim settlers in Canada and the communities they built—mosques, cultural centers, schools, and social spaces that have fostered belonging, learning, and mutual support. Through historical exploration and contemporary reflection, we will honor the pioneers whose efforts laid the foundation for vibrant and thriving Muslim communities today.
We invite individuals, organizations, and institutions to join us in marking IHMC 2025 by hosting events, sharing stories, and engaging in meaningful conversations that promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation of Muslim contributions to Canada.
We look forward to seeing the many thriving communities, whether big or small, across Canada share their stories and efforts with all Canadians. Let’s celebrate, educate, and inspire together!
Warm regards from the IHMC 2025 Team
